Perpignan – Montpellier: 23-16

The match of fear kept all its promises in terms of suspense. Incredibly close, unbreathable from start to finish, the meeting ended up leaning in favor of the USAP. Catalans who had nevertheless missed the mark at the start of the second half, failing to take full advantage of a double numerical superiority, and who believed that fate was going against them shortly before the hour mark, with a try refused to Fa’aoso’o (57th).

The deliverance came from the foot of McIntyre, who delivered a marvelous cross to Crossdale (71st) while the two teams were tied (16-16). Transformed, the test took the MHR out of the defensive bonus and plunged the Hérault club a little further into crisis with a sixth defeat in a row and a terrible last place.

What we take away: Montpellier is at the bottom of the red

Clermont – Toulon : 27-30

For his very last career, Alun Wyn Jones, captain of the RCT for the occasion, was treated to a great rugby match. Well started by a quick try from Peceli Yato (5th), the game was spectacular and close between two teams who, contrary to their habits, did not restrict their playing intentions.

Boosted by the excellent return of the metronome Baptiste Serin, the RCT was able to overthrow the Jaunards at the very end of the game thanks to a try from Wainoqolo, receiving a perfect foot pass from the international scrum half (78th). Not yet defeated, the ASMCA offered its public one last thrill but the Var defense was able to hold its line remarkably and glean a first victory this season away from Mayol.

What we remember: A crazy game for Alum Wyn Jones

Bayonne – Pau: 35-16

The Bayonnais started the game badly against the Palois whom they had not beaten for 18 years, but they knew how to flex their muscles. Efficient in scoring the first try of the game after a quarter of an hour of play at fifteen against fourteen by Lucas Paulos, then united and hermetic in numerical inferiority, the Basques returned to the locker room with a break in advance (17-9). The lead was increased from the start of the second half with a third try scored by Federico Mori (42nd).

Beaten in the confrontation zones, unable to realize their strong points, the Béarnais were never able to challenge Bayonne’s success. A victory enhanced at the end of the game with a try from scrum half Guillaume Rouet, who rewarded the Basque aggressiveness throughout the match.

What we remember: the setback for Pau

Oyonnax – Lyon: 38-20

The Lyonnais wanted to reassure themselves after two defeats in a row, but it took them half-time to get into their match at the promoted side. Apathetic in the first period, with 3 tries conceded and a scathing 30-3 on the scoreboard, Fabien Gegenbacher’s men showed other intentions in the second act. A new face rewarded by two tries in quick succession from Jordan Taufua (42nd) and Davit Niniashvili (46th). Enough to remove the offensive bonus from the Oyomen, their awakening was however far too late to hope to bring back anything from Charles-Mathon.

What we remember: the first catastrophic period of the Lyonnais
