The macOS menu bar is a great area to insert icons/indicators to always check information quickly, at a glance. With this in mind, the developer Takuto Nakamura created the application RunCat.
The premise of the app is very simple: it displays the animated icon of a moving kitten, which represents the speed of the CPU. 1Central processing unitor central processing unit. do Mac.
In other words, the faster the animal runs, the more the computer’s processor is being used. This is a simplified and friendly representation of how much of the Mac’s chip is currently being used.
When you click on the icon, various technical information about your Mac is detailed. Both CPU, memory, battery, storage and network usage are shown, including data such as cycle count and battery temperature, compressed memory and IP address of the Mac. network.
If you prefer, you can change the icon displayed to other representations of animals, as well as objects that move — such as rockets and gears — and even Christmas symbols, among others (paid). You can even add icons created from scratch by the user.
When using multiple displays, the icon is only displayed on the main one, to avoid conflicts with other apps. In any case, the kitten continues running, displaying the level of processor usage.
RunCat is free in the Mac App Storewith internal purchases of alternative icons.
