Running: Carolina Wikström won the Lidingö Race in record time “A bucket list item”

Watch the raucous ending and hear Carolina Wikström in the player above.

Carolina Wikström went out with the goal of taking her first victory in the Lidingö Race and at the same time setting a track record. But the Swede was second for a long time behind the former holder of the course record, the Kenyan Sylvia Medugu.

– When there was less than a mile to go, I got reports that I was like 50 seconds behind, so I just ran to defend second place. When I saw Sylvia when there were 3-4 kilometers to go, the competitive instinct was awakened, says Wikström.

Sylvia Medugu lost a lot at the end and finished second in 1.52.32. Carolina Wikström had a perfect end to the season – in the race where her elite career began six years ago.

– It’s really a bucket list thing to win the Lindingö race, it feels really cool.

On the men’s side, Ebba Tulu Chala won in a time of 1.38.19 after a sprint battle against Oscar Niyonzima.
