The creator of Harry Potter was targeted by Meer Asif Aziz, an Iran-supporting Islamist extremist, who tweeted that she would be the next to suffer that fate.

“What appalling news. That makes me sick. Hope he recovers,” JK Rowling tweeted following hearing the news regarding Mr. Rushdie.

Meer Asif Aziz, who describes himself on social media as a student and activist, responded to the writer’s tweet: “Don’t worry, you’ll be next.”

JK Rowling immediately flagged the tweet and called on Twitter to take action. She confirmed shortly following that the police were aware of the situation.
