Russia.. Recovering the appearance of a Scythian king and queen from Crimea dating back to the fourth century BC

Russia – The appearance of a Scythian king and queen has been restored, in an ancient mound recently found in the Crimean Peninsula.

Their external appearance was restored based on a method proposed by the Russian anthropologist Mikhail Gerasimov, who had previously created a sculptural image of the Scythian king (Skylor).

Irina Shkrebljak, deputy director of the Naples Scythian Museum, who supervised the excavations, said: “For the first time in more than half a century, the appearance of the Scythian royal couple who lived in the fourth century BC has been restored. Their remains were discovered during excavations conducted in the Tuak Oba mound in the Belogorsk region of the Crimean Peninsula.

Shkrebljak noted: “In a looted basement, we found two skulls of a man and a woman. An anthropologist from the Russian city of Ufa, Alexei Nichvaloda, who specializes in reconstructing the external appearance, helped restore the components of the two faces, which are figures of the elite, specifically the king and his wife. Furthermore, the woman was most likely a burial victim, and did not die with her husband. “While we have not yet shown the general public the results of the rebuilding process.”

This is the second reproduction of the appearance of the Scythian kings after the process of restoring the appearance of the king (Skylor), which was carried out by the Soviet anthropologist Mikhail Gerasimov in the second half of the twentieth century based on a skull found in a rich burial ground in the capital of the Scythians, “Scythian Naples,” in the current city of Simferopol in Crimea.

It is noteworthy that King Skilor lived in the second century BC, and the remains that were found date back to the fourth century BC and belong to the elite of the Scythian civilization who lived in the Crimean Peninsula.
