The accident occurred at around 1pm on Friday when the bus carrying about 20 passengers veered off course and fell off a bridge into the waters of the Moika River.

Video released by 112 shows from the camera inside the bus the attempt of the driver to regain control of the vehicle before falling from the bridge.

The driver of the bus was a 44-year-old man originally from Tajikistan who was arrested and is being questioned. According to Russian reports, he claimed that he lost control of the vehicle due to a brake system failure. However, according to the driver’s wife, named Rakhmashok Kurbonov, the 44-year-old worked 20 hours without a break and returned home at 2am, having to wake up at 7.30am to return to work.
