Russia thanks Saudi Arabia for its efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis

In response to the Kingdom’s efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation today, Wednesday, with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the two ministers discussed priority issues for the gradual development of diversified, mutually beneficial Russian-Saudi cooperation in line with the implementation of agreements reached earlier at the highest level.

Gratitude from the Saudi position

The statement added that the Russian side expressed its gratitude to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its constructive stance and readiness to make efforts to find ways to solve the complex problems associated with the Ukrainian crisis.

Particular attention was paid to continuing constructive cooperation in the “OPEC +” format.

The two sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in continuing close coordination of foreign policy at the bilateral and international levels.

Saudi mediation

It is noteworthy that the Kingdom has always stressed its support for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

A few weeks ago, the mediation efforts of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman succeeded in concluding a prisoner exchange deal between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, during which 10 foreign prisoners who were captured in Ukraine were released.

At that time, this step came out of the interests of the Crown Prince, and in continuation of his efforts to adopt humanitarian initiatives towards the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and thanks to his continuous endeavors with the relevant countries.

Earlier today, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Prince Faisal assured Lavrov that the Kingdom continues its efforts between all parties and supports international efforts aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis politically.
