Russia takes over the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council this Saturday, April 1. Far from being an April Fool’s joke, it is a coincidence of the calendar which intervenes while the war between this country and Ukraine is far from knowing its end.
According to the provisions of the UN Security Council, its presidency rotates according to the alphabetical order of the 15 Member States. And from this 1is April 2023, it will again be Russia’s turn. And if it is true that this new position of the country of Vladimir PUTIN in the sphere of the UN raises a thousand and one questions, the publications of the colleagues from Euronews are reassuring.

According to Thomas GRAHAM, a prominent member of the Council on Foreign Relations, to whom they handed their microphone, ” But the importance of this post should not be overstated… The President of the Council chairs the meetings and takes care of much of the administrative work, but he has very little power to influence the decisions taken by the Council.…. Russia’s assumption of the UN Security Council presidency this month would give Moscow no advantage in the conflict. If Russia attempts to introduce speakers to the Council that the United States and other countries deem inappropriate, they can, on procedural matters and with only nine votes, prevent Russia from doing some of the things it might want to do…”.
