Russia welcomes OPEC production cut… Balancing the chaos caused by the United States

Russia welcomed the decision to reduce oil production by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) led by Saudi Arabia and OPEC+ (OPEC+), a consultative group for non-OPEC countries, saying, “It is a good thing to oppose the activities of the United States.” commented

Russian Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a commentary on the 9th (local time) that the decision to cut production was “a thoughtful and balanced decision made by the responsible countries within OPEC according to the plan,” according to TAS news agency.

“The decision to cut production serves at least to balance the turmoil the United States has caused in the oil market,” Peskov said.

After a monthly ministerial meeting on the 5th, OPEC+ announced that it had agreed to reduce oil production by 2 million barrels per day starting in November.

The U.S. government is dissatisfied with the decision and is considering countermeasures.

The U.S. pressured oil-producing countries not to cut oil production, saying that it would raise international oil prices, deepen global inflation, and help Russia to finance its invasion of Ukraine, but to no avail.

Some in the US political circle are raising doubts that Saudi Arabia, a traditional ally of the US, has blatantly sided with Russia.

Some Democrats in Congress are even calling for a sharp cut in US arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
