The United States sharply rejected on Monday Russia’s accusations of interference by Ukraine and the West in the assault the day before once morest an airport in Dagestanan attack that the White House compared to a “pogrom”.

“The events that occurred last night (…) were provoked, including through social networks, particularly from Ukraine, by agents of Western special services“, declared Vladimir Putin during a government meeting dedicated to the event.

Asked regarding this, John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, quipped: “How cute…”. “Classic Russian rhetoric, when something goes wrong in your country, you blame someone else,” he lambasted, asserting: “The West has nothing to do with it .”

“We call on the Russian authorities to publicly condemn these violent demonstrations and to ensure the safety of Israelis and Jews in Russia,” he continued.

A crowd of men invaded the tarmac and the airport terminal of the capital of Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim Russian Caucasian republic, on Sunday evening, in the midst of tensions linked to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

A plane from Tel Aviv of the Russian company Red Wings landed on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. local time (5 p.m. in Belgium) in Makhachkala, according to the specialized website Flightradar24.

“Some will compare this to the pogroms of the late 21st and early 20th centuries and I think that’s probably an apt description, given the video that’s circulating,” commented John Kirby, referring to the frequent deadly attacks once morest Jews that took place at this time in history in the Russian Empire.

“This is pure and simple hatred, bigotry and intimidation,” he added.
