The Russian-Ukrainian war continued, and several residential buildings in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv were bombarded by Russian troops stationed outside the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that Kyiv will implement a curfew from 8 p.m. local time this evening.
Klitschko said two people were killed in the latest shelling. After the curfew was imposed, “it will not be possible to move within the city without special permission, except to go to a shelter”. “The capital is the heart of Ukraine and must be defended. Kyiv is now a symbol and outpost of freedom and security in Europe, and we will not give up,” he said.
The situation has intensified in recent days, and Kyiv has been almost completely surrounded. Half of Kyiv’s 3.5 million residents have fled the city since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
“Today is a difficult and dangerous time,” former heavyweight champion Klitschko said in a statement on the messaging app Telegram. “That’s why I ask all Kyiv citizens to prepare to stay at home or for 2 days, or wait until the sirens have stopped, go to Shelter.” He said the curfew will last from 8 p.m. today (6 p.m. GMT on the 15th) to 7 p.m. on the 17th (5 p.m. GMT on the 17th), which is a “military” Command’s decision”.
Meanwhile, the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia took a train to besieged Kyiv on Monday, the first visit by a foreign leader since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month in a show of strong support for Ukraine.
Following the Russian invasion, Kyiv imposed a similar curfew on February 26.
