The Russian Daniil Medvedev, seeded n°3, won three sets to nil (6-2, 6-2, 7-6 [6]) against Argentinian Sebastian Baez and qualified for the round of 16 of the US Open in New York on Saturday in a night session.
The Argentinian, after his titles at Kitzbuhel and Winston Salem appeared very fit when starting this match but the first two sets looked like a health ballad for the “hard court specialist” and winner of the US Open in 2021 .
However, the Russian got a scare in the third set as he found himself trailing five games to two at the precise moment when a light downpour interrupted the match.
