Russian economy is more resilient than expected in 2022 | Economy

Russian President Vladimir Putin The country’s economy is estimated to shrink by 2.5% in 2022, but the economy is still performing better than most experts predict, January 17 said.

Speaking at a meeting with top officials including the finance minister and central bank governor, Putin said the actual developments were much better than experts’ forecasts.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Russia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the period from January to November 2022 decreased but only 2.1%.

Some domestic experts, not to mention foreign experts, predict a reduction of up to 10% and 15%, even 20%. But for the whole year, Putin said that Russia’s economy is expected to shrink by only 2.5%.

The Russian president also stressed the need for the government to stimulate real wage growth.

The conflict in Ukraine broke out at the end of February 2022 with a series of Western sanctions then upset some areas of the background Russian economy.

The country’s biggest banks are no longer accessible SWIFT global financial networkwhile the ability to access technology and export oil and gas is also limited.
