UNITED NATIONS, September 23 (Archyde.com) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday dismissed the latest UN proposals aimed at reviving the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea, saying they were not did not satisfy Moscow’s demands.
In a letter to Sergei Lavrov last month, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres outlined four steps the UN could facilitate to improve Russia’s grain and fertilizer exports, in a bid to convince Moscow to return to the agreement.
“We explained to the Secretary General the reasons why his proposals would not work. We do not reject them. They are simply unrealistic. They cannot be implemented,” declared the head of Russian diplomacy.
He also said Ukraine’s peace plan was “completely unworkable” and that the conflict would be resolved on the battlefield if Kyiv and the West stuck to it.
Sergei Lavrov recalled that Moscow had withdrawn from the agreement because its demands – notably the return of the Russian Agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank), targeted by sanctions decided by the EU following the offensive in Ukraine, in the international banking system SWIFT – had not been satisfied.
