Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned once morest the use of US fighter jets in Ukrainian territory. After a stop in Kiev, the diplomatic efforts of a high-ranking African delegation are now continuing in Russia.

At the International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin denied that Ukraine had gained land in the counter-offensive on the front lines and once more criticized western arms deliveries.

Type-16 fighter jets on Ukrainian territory would burn, Putin said. And: The delivery of these aircraft will draw NATO into the conflict, he warned: “Tanks are burning in Ukraine, several tanks have been destroyed recently in Ukrainian operations towards Vremivka and Zaporizhia, including Leopard tanks. And yesterday it was the same, yesterday it was Leopards. They are burning. F-16s will also burn, no doubt.”

After a meeting with top politicians from seven African countries in Kiev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that he would only consider negotiations with the Kremlin following a Russian troop withdrawal.

Important for Africa: the disputed grain agreement

During the talks in Kiev, the politicians complained regarding the negative consequences of the Russian war of aggression for Africa, especially the increased grain prices. Just a few days ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov once more threatened to end the grain agreement with Kiev, which is due to expire next month. Among other things, the agreement facilitates the export of grain to developing and emerging countries.

The African delegation continued to Russia, where a meeting with Putin was to take place. The group, led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, says it is on a “historic mission”. South Africa has good relations with Moscow and, like Russia, is a member of the Brics States.
