BLACK SEA
Volodymyr Zelensky took advantage of the international day for the protection of the Black Sea to accuse Russia of transforming this body of water into a “battlefield”. “The Black Sea is of strategic importance not only for Russia, but also for Europe, the Middle East and global food security. Russia has turned it into a battlefield, using it for aggression and threatening freedom of navigation,” he lambasted. “Today, we must work together so that the Black Sea once again becomes a zone of peace, trade and development,” demanded the Ukrainian president.
Note that this annual event has been celebrated by countries bordering the Black Sea every year since 1996, when agreements were signed to protect it from pollution.
