According to kyiv, Russia will seek to seize Bakhmout by May 9
Russia has stepped up its bombardment of Bakhmout in hopes of taking control of it by Tuesday, Oleksandr Syrsky, the Ukrainian general in charge of the city’s protection, said on Telegram. “Our mission is to prevent this,” he added. May 9 is Victory Day, one of the main national holidays in Russia, which commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany. “It is important to take decisions as quickly as possible and to anticipate the actions of the enemy,” Oleksandr Syrsky said following visiting his troops on the front line in Bakhmout. According to him, the Russian army has intensified its bombardments with heavy weapons in the region.
The boss of the Wagner group, Evguéni Prigojine, had threatened Friday, in an inflammatory video with regard to the high military hierarchy, to withdraw his mercenaries from Bakhmout, epicenter of the fighting in the east, if they did not receive more ammunition, before affirming this Sunday to have received the assurance of receiving all the ammunition “which we need to continue operations”.
