Ryan Lochte donates his medals

Ryan Lochte donated six Olympic medals at auction. The proceeds will be donated to an organization that allows children with incurable diseases to travel.

The swimmer retained only six Olympic gold medals. The six silver and bronze medals, plus a luxury watch, are expected to fetch nearly $100,000 at auction. “I’m not a particularly sentimental person regarding medals,” Lochte explained. They just sit in a closet and gather dust. The memories I have are what matter most.’

Ryan Lochte has won a total of twelve swimming medals at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016). After serving a two-year suspension for doping, he contested his last race at the 2021 US Trials, but failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

In the past, Lochte had already donated medals won at national championships to children in the audience.
