The flag is handed over

The end of the Ski World Championships in Courchevel Méribel, France, on February 19, 2023 is also the starting signal for the 48th Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach 2025.

34 years after the unforgettable World Sun Championships in 1991, another atmospheric winter fairy tale is to be written in the world-famous Salzburg ski resort from February 4th to 16th, 2025. The symbolic handover of the FIS flag for the 2025 World Championships was the crowning glory of the international title fights in Courchevel Méribel for the Saalbach delegation.

“We have experienced great sport here in France in the last few days with perfect conditions and 7 medals for Austria. The spark has jumped and the anticipation of experiencing the next World Ski Championships in Saalbach is huge. We will do everything we can to make these World Championships a real festival for alpine skiing, which should also inspire young people to get involved in this wonderful sport,” says ÖSV President Roswitha Stadlober, who, together with Mayor Alois Hasenauer, Peter Mitterer (BB Hinterglemm ) and Bartl Gensbichler (ski club) received the FIS flag in France.

In order to be able to present itself as the perfect host in two years, preparations are already in full swing in one of the largest and most innovative tourist destinations in the Alps. The focus is still on the concept “One mountain – all competitions”. All races are held on the Zwölferkogel in Hinterglemm, which combines all World Cup slopes with just one finish area for all disciplines. The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships 2025 should not only be a world championship of short distances for ski stars and fans from all over the world, but also in terms of future-oriented infrastructure and sustainability, the home World Championships in Saalbach should set new standards in the organization of a major sporting event become.

The World Cup final should be the perfect dress rehearsal for the World Cup

In March 2024, the grand finale of the Alpine Ski World Cup will take place in Saalbach. The eagerly awaited end of the season is also the dress rehearsal for the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach 2025.

Before the World Cup takes place in Saalbach in February 2025, Saalbach is looking forward to welcoming the best ski racers in the world to the World Cup finals of the 2023/24 season. Then the final sporting decisions in the overall World Cup and in the individual discipline ratings will be made for both the women and the men. Traditionally, only the 25 best athletes in the respective discipline rankings and all runners with over 500 points in the overall ranking are eligible to start at the season finale. In addition, the reigning junior world champions can also present themselves on the big stage of skiing at the final.

This gives the athletes the opportunity to get to know the World Cup slopes on the Zwölferkogel better and to ski at a racing pace for the first time. The World Cup final should also bring important information for the World Cup organization team with regard to infrastructure, mobility concept and sports logistics, as almost eleven months later World Cup medals will be awarded again in Glemmtal.
