Saarland Highly poisonous banana spiders paralyze the entire organic market

Two spiders have been spotted in an organic shop near Saarbrücken, which probably came into the country in banana boxes. These could be highly venomous wandering spiders. The market has now closed.

Presumably highly toxic banana spiders have paralyzed a supermarket in Saarland. The manager of the market in Kleinblittersdorf discovered the two suspected poisonous spiders when unpacking banana boxes and alerted the police, as the officials in Saarbrücken announced on Thursday evening. The employee immediately tried to catch the animals with buckets, reports David Sommerlade from the Leimroth organic market.

When expert Jörg Langer from Tiernotruf Saarland looked after the animals, a native cricket hopped out of a bucket towards him, reports the «Saarbrücker Zeitung». The second container was empty. Langer assumes that the spider has escaped. According to his assessment, the animals could be specimens of the Brazilian wandering spider, which is also known as the banana spider and is also considered dangerous for humans. For a long time she called them the “cobras among the poisonous spiders”, which can jump more than a meter.

Now pest controllers should take care of the problem. The supermarket was cleared immediately after the find, and customers had to leave the store. It will remain closed until the poisonous animals have been found.
