Celebrating 40 years in the city of Córdoba, this Monday the Flavors and Sweets Fair was inaugurated. It has 31 fairmen who come from different corners of the province and other places in the country.

The fair began on Saturday and will run until April 2, inclusive. Admission is free and can be visited from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the former Plaza Vélez Sarsfield, in front of Patio Olmos.

“We feel that we are representing the culture through Cordoban gastronomy. We are a space that allows many working families to try these products that represent us as Cordobans,” remarked Anabel Rodríguez, director of the Sabores y Dulzuras de Córdoba Association.

Most of the products are made by families who have been in the gastronomic field for generations, some with more than 20 years participating in the fair. This time, the focus is on highlighting the origins and manufacturing processes of each product.

The walk through the fair is similar to a trip to every corner of Córdoba, with its distinctive smells, colors and flavors. It covers a wide variety of artisanal and gourmet proposals with pastry products, chocolates, liqueurs, alfajores, teas, chipá, carob, jams, chocolates, pastries, fernet, chutneys, cheeses, salamis, candies, ice creams, honey, yerba, vinegars, olive oils, beers, preserves and much more.

“We do not usually repeat items, unless they are very varied. This happens, for example, with alfajores, because although it is a single item, they are very different: there are people from Córdoba, Santa Fe, this year we have alfajores with fruits from the mountains,” Rodríguez commented.

The main focus of the fair is gastronomy, but they also opened the doors to those artisans related to this field. (LaVoz/Javier Ferreyra)

The main focus of the fair is always gastronomy, but they also opened the doors to those artisans related to this field. For example, there are manufacturers of mates, boards, clay pots, ornamental and aromatic plants, ceramics, pots and table linens.

Young entrepreneurs

Within the fair’s endeavors, in addition to the artisanal and homemade, quality prevails. Rodríguez stressed that they are demanding when it comes to selecting new gastronomic producers.

“Not just any gastronomic entrepreneur can enter. Each participant in the fair has the corresponding authorizations from each municipality where their products are produced,” he explained.

Although the fair was founded by women, today the situation is very balanced. The positions are mainly made up of family members, without distinction of gender.

“We notice that many new producers are entering, many young people who perhaps had a job, and today they are encouraged to start a business and participate in a fair. This place is a very different experience, we have the characteristic of taking place for many days where a very familiar atmosphere is generated,” highlighted the fairer.
