Safe Riding in the Harz Mountains: Preventing Accidents and Traffic Offences

2023-08-07 07:00:00

The Harz is one of the best-known motorcycle areas in Germany and is also becoming increasingly popular with touring bikers from Denmark and the Netherlands because of its location. However, this also leads to an increase in accidents and traffic offences. There were over 200 accidents involving motorcycles in the district last year. The police therefore started the preventive campaign “Safe through the Harz Mountains” some time ago. One of the police officers who drive their own motorbikes is Police Superintendent Sebastian Fabich.

Fabich estimates that around 60 percent of motorcycle accidents in the Harz Mountains are due to improper speed, as he explained in an interview with Car-Editors.Net. In the case of collisions with cars, on the other hand, the drivers are often to blame because motorcycles are simply harder to see than other vehicles. The chief police officer sees the age group of up to 25-year-olds and over 50-year-olds as risk groups. For some it is more their inexperience, for others it can be a lack of concentration on longer tours, but also slight health problems that lead to carelessness. (awm)
