Even if the speed has gone from 80 to 70 km/h on Route 169, in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, at the intersection of 2nd row, a father who has lost his daughter wants to see other changes for the safety of motorists.
On June 29, Alexandre Pérusse lost his 10-year-old daughter, Larissa Pérusse, in a collision. Mr. Pérusse had immobilized his vehicle on route 169 while waiting to turn left, before being hit by another vehicle. He saw his daughter lose her life before his eyes.
Nearly two months following the tragedy, changes were completed in this portion of the road located in Métabetchouan-Lac-à-La-Croix.
“It’s a step in the right direction,” said the father. There should be more police surveillance and traffic controllers, since there are a lot of heavy goods vehicles.
For his part, the mayor of Métabetchouan, André Fortin, is happy with the rapid changes.
“They intervened quickly, we are satisfied that the speed limit has been reduced,” said the mayor, who underlined that educational radars will also be added in the sector.
Residents of the area have been complaining for several years regarding the speed on Route 169.
An awareness-raising activity is planned by the Sûreté du Québec and the municipality.
