Saif Uddin never wanted such an ‘opponent’

Saif Uddin’s throat was almost broken. The words were stuttering. However, the pace all-rounder said with great regret, ‘My biggest opponent is injury.’

Saif Uddin has said many things before and after this. But you can’t accept losing to injuries again and again. So you are feeling the urge to change your world of thoughts. In his voice, the urge to change the open, ‘there is no end to the good. I am not completely happy with my bowling. It would be nice if you could do better. Nothing new. It’s all about confidence and mindset. If these two are right, there will be success.’

Saif Uddin last donned the national team jersey in October last year against Pakistan. The wait is even longer in the ODI format. He last played an ODI in 2021 against Zimbabwe. Then he is far away from the national team due to injuries and his off form.

The pace all-rounder has entered the field with a big goal in this year’s Dhaka League. So far he has been successful. He took 17 wickets in 9 matches with 3.78 runs per over. But the target is bigger for Abahani’s pacer, ‘as there are five or six more matches, all in the Super League. That’s why I will try to take four or five wickets. I am preparing to get 25-30 wickets at the end of the tournament.

Every cricketer has to spend the time that Saif Uddin is spending at this stage of his career. So the pace all-rounder, waiting for good times without despair, ‘Life has its ups and downs. I accept it and move forward. Always try to stay fit. If fit, I will perform. My biggest opponent is injury. As long as it (fitness) stays good…I feel perfectly healthy and fit now. If I continue to play consistently, opportunities will come.’

He wants to return to the national team soon, ‘I will try to give my best from my place. If I can be one or two in the list of wicket takers in the Premier League. I am trying to contribute to the victory in the batting opportunities I get.’
