Sailings canceled Thursday in the Northumberland Strait

Travelers in the Maritimes may have to change their plans, as strong winds push the company Northumberland Ferries to cancel crossings on Thursday between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Winds of more than 40 km/h and gusts of 70 km/h are forecast for the whole day.

Confederation Bridge officials are warning motorists to expect possible restrictions due to the winds.

These winds come following the storm which passed over the region on Tuesday and Wednesday, explains the meteorologist Tina Simpkinof CBC. Rain and drizzle are also possible.

The surfaces therefore risk being slippery because the temperatures are close to the freezing point, underlines Ms. Simpkin. It recommends caution to pedestrians and motorists.

The province might receive more snow and rain from Friday evening until Sunday, which might also lead to poor road conditions, adds the meteorologist.
