A woman from Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, in Chaudière-Appalaches, was overjoyed after winning the 27e Tanguay House. She learned the news alongside her partner on Sunday morning during the grand prize draw.

As soon as his name rang out in the reception room of the Le Bonne Entente hotel, France Bertrand and her partner, Steve Lagueux, exploded with joy. They are the lucky ones chosen among the 15 finalists of the major annual competition, who were gathered for the occasion.

“It’s completely unrealistic,” argues the new winner of the Maison de la Fondation Maurice-Tanguay. It’s so emotional, I can’t find the words to express how happy we are! »

The hair salon owner said her plans for the day were completely disrupted by the big news.

“I was planning to go back home to do some laundry, but I think we might change plans after all,” she jokes.

For the cause

France Bertrand is obviously delighted to have won the bid, but she maintains that this was far from being the objective when she purchased draw tickets in recent months.

“For us, it is very important to encourage this cause. I have been buying tickets systematically for many years. It was a client of the show, an ambassador of the Maurice-Tanguay Foundation, who sold them to us, as she does every year. »

Asked what they would choose between the house worth $985,000 in the location of their choice or $750,000 in cash, the couple says they will take all the time necessary to make a thoughtful decision. .

“We’re going to take the time to let the dust settle and we’re going to think about all this with a clear head. No matter what we end up choosing, it’s an incredible opportunity and we simply can’t believe we won,” continues Steve Lagueux

Series of records

For a third consecutive year, the sale of participation tickets by the Maurice-Tanguay Foundation and its ambassadors reached a new peak, with $3,751,470 raised in 2023.

This significant amount will be used to carry out projects affecting youth, to offer respite to parents, specialized care for children, to purchase adapted equipment or to support organizations or schools targeting clients with special needs.

The general director of the foundation, Olivier Tanguay, considers that it is all the more important to continue collecting donations, since the needs for this type of service continue to increase from year to year.

“It impresses me to see the generosity of people,” he concludes. We are going through a particularly difficult period economically with inflation and the increase in the cost of living. It’s touching to see that so many people still find ways to share and give despite everything. »
