Sales of the 49-euro ticket start in Germany

The 49-euro monthly subscription offered in Germany for local and regional buses and trains is now available. Sales began on Monday night on the online platforms and apps of the regional transport companies and associations as well as Deutsche Bahn. As soon as the customer centers of the transport companies open, the subscription can also be taken out there.

The 49-euro ticket, which can be used from May, is the successor to the 9-euro ticket that was available for three months last summer. It aims to make regional and local public transport more affordable and thus attract more passengers. After months of wrangling, the federal and state governments in Germany had agreed to each bear half the cost of the ticket. The Federal Council approved the project last Friday, clearing the last political hurdle.

The ticket is issued as an online ticket or as a chip card and can be canceled monthly as a subscription. The monthly price is – as the name suggests – 49 euros.
