Salesforce and Anthropic Launch Claudeforce to Put CRM Inside Claude

Salesforce and Anthropic launched a sweeping partnership expansion, introducing “Claudeforce,” a plugin for Claude CoWork that embeds Salesforce’s customer relationship management platform directly inside Claude. Shipping with 37 pre-built sales skills, the system lets sellers query, update, and analyze live CRM data without opening Salesforce interfaces, signaling a major shift toward consumption-based enterprise software.

The Architecture of a Headless CRM Plugin

The technical foundation of Claudeforce traces back to March, when Salesforce rolled out Headless 360 at its TDX developer conference. That initial release introduced a collection of APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and command-line utilities designed to let AI agents interact with Salesforce data, workflows, and governance rules completely independently of any graphical user interface. While developers quickly embraced the setup, friction remained a massive hurdle for standard knowledge workers.

Every individual user previously had to understand what an MCP server was, manually configure the connections, and ensure correct permission mapping. According to Patrick Stokes, Salesforce’s president of applications and marketing, the breakthrough came from studying Anthropic’s own internal workflows. Anthropic’s team was already using Salesforce exclusively through Claude backed by custom MCP servers and skills. The two companies productized that exact setup into a centralized CoWork plugin.

Under the hood, the execution pipeline remains intentionally lean. When a seller prompts Claude to update a sales opportunity, the model reasons over its available skills—structured instructions guiding specific tasks—and executes the request against Salesforce’s MCP server. Crucially, this layer inherits the user’s existing permissions automatically. If a user lacks read or write access to a specific record in Salesforce, the MCP server blocks the request, preserving enterprise security postures without requiring a complete re-audit.

Consumption Pricing and the Death of the Seat License

By shifting knowledge workers away from Lightning pages and into Claude, Salesforce is leaning into headless consumption pricing, where customers scale their costs based on incremental API calls. Customers contract separately with Anthropic for underlying token inference, creating a distinctive two-invoice financial structure.

Stokes rejected the notion that bypassing Salesforce screens diminishes the platform’s long-term enterprise value. Instead, he argued that the true moat of Salesforce is not its UI, but 27 years of accumulated metadata, encoded business logic, and transactional history. A morning ritual that traditionally required thousands of clicks across multiple list views and activity logs can now be synthesized by Claude in roughly thirty seconds. According to Salesforce, this efficiency unlocks trapped data value, increasing overall platform interaction rather than reducing it.

Vibe-Coded Dashboards and the Agentic Knowledge Worker

During a live demonstration accompanying the announcement, Salesforce VP of product management Shannon Mathews showcased Claude generating a customized sales “command center” entirely on the fly as a local HTML file. Responding to prompts for prioritized action plans and account intelligence pulled from the web, Claude built dynamic layouts styled to user preference—demonstrating how agentic interfaces let workers dynamically spin up tailored operational tools rather than depending on rigid pre-built software screens.

Salesforce carefully separates this knowledge worker integration from Agentforce, its autonomous agent platform designed to handle customer-facing interactions like help desks. While Agentforce manages automated workflows touching end consumers, Claudeforce operates strictly as an internal assistant for sellers and business teams. This rollout positions Claude as the default model across Salesforce’s broader ecosystem, including Slack, where 83% of Salesforce’s internal workforce now utilizes Claude-powered Slackbot integrations to save millions of productivity hours annually.

As the open beta approaches in September, followed by expanded business functions in the third quarter, the broader tech landscape faces a clear inflection point.
