Sami Gemayel on ‘The Party’s Loss of the Majority’: This happened… and the opposition MPs: It is forbidden unless we work together

Kataeb Party leader Sami Gemayel asked at a ceremony for Kataeb MPs at the Kataeb Central House in Saifi: “Who said nothing has changed? We heard a lot and they said there is no need for elections because they will return themselves, and Hezbollah will remain in control of the council, but no, everything has changed and Hezbollah The majority lost, and dozens of new opposition figures, outside the system, entered the parliament. This is what we were promised, and this is what happened.

Gemayel paid tribute to all the Lebanese who proved that with democracy they can change everything, as well as salute all the Phalangists who contributed to this victory over an area of 10,452 km.

Gemayel also saluted the Phalangists in the south, who proved that it is not true that we do not have a word and that we are currency groups, and that we are forgotten, for they brought down Asaad Hardan and the Syrian Nationalist Party.

Gemayel dedicated our work, our struggle, our sweat, our toil, our sleepless nights, and the result we achieved to all the victims of the Beirut Port explosion, led by the late Secretary-General of the Phalange Party, Nizar Najarian, Joe Akiki, Joe Andon, Tony Barmaki, and all the victims.

He added: “We dedicate the struggle to the six thousand martyrs of the struggle in the battalions, headed by President Bashir Gemayel, Pierre Gemayel and Antoine Ghanem, and we dedicate fatigue and struggle to the martyrs of the Cedar Revolution who gave their lives for us, and we present victory to the martyrs of the October 17 Revolution, who were martyred in Martyrs Square with the bullets of treachery and today they entered To the council, we crossed through all the young people who left the revolution, and today they will storm it through the wide door.”

Gemayel called on the Internal Security Forces and the Beirut municipality to remove all unnecessary barriers around Parliament because the revolutionaries will enter Parliament.

He addressed the Phalangists, saying: “My comrades, I cannot express how proud I am of you, you who have never bowed and never compromised.”

He recalled the political positions that we have taken since 2015 with fierce opposition when they were all on the chairs and the people were not aware of the horror of what awaits us, addressing the Phalangists by saying: “You had the ability to stick to your speech, your principles, and the solidity of your position at a time when no one understood what we were saying, and today in May 2022 it has become More than half of those in the parliament carry this discourse, and this is the victory of the Kataeb, that is, the cause that the Kataeb was defending in 2015 has become the majority in the House of Representatives.

Gemayel, who made it clear that we would have a lot to say, congratulated the victorious Kataeb MPs and all our winning allies in all of Lebanon, and added: “We were alone in 2018, an opposition, we were 3 or 4 with some friends, today we are half of the assembly.”

He congratulated those who fought the battle with all their might and were not lucky, and this is only the beginning for them. He singled out brother and friend Majd Harb, with whom we fought the most beautiful battle in Batroun, addressing him by saying: “You are a brother and you will remain a brother.”

The head of the battalions said: “Everything has changed in politics in Lebanon, all the composition of the Tarbeesh is over, because they have lost the majority and the ability to ally with each other, and we are facing a whole new political scene and completely new dynamics, and this is what we will see because they can no longer support each other.” “.

He stressed that what has been achieved is the loss of the majority by Hezbollah, and the establishment of a parliamentary bloc or a meeting or a gathering outside the system, and this happened, and that our allies and those who believe in the sovereignty of Lebanon in accountability, change and reform are many, and today we are facing a new stage as those who were in power are sitting and counting how many votes will Nabih Berri get in the presidency of the council.

He asked: “Who thought they would count the majority and how many votes did they get? And who would have thought that the symbols of the Syrian regime would bring down this resounding fall?”

He stressed that the people have proven that they are a living people ready for accountability and capable of changing the equation, pointing out that now is the time to work and continue the struggle as if it were elections time to keep pace with the change in the parliament alongside our representatives and friends to restore the country because we are coming to major battles.

He explained that the challenges are many and the country is completely collapsing and what is required to be saved, directing an appeal to all the elected opposition representatives for unity, the unity of the opposition in the next stage in defense of Lebanon’s sovereignty, accountability, reforms and the oppressed people, and added: “In this difficult stage, it is forbidden except to work in the parliament together. We will save and defend the people.”

He added, “The people gave us an opportunity to rescue it and save our country from the nightmare. It is forbidden not to seize the opportunity and turn it into a reality. This requires humility and “brain magnification.”

He continued, “We pledge, as Phalangists, to put ourselves at the disposal of this unit, and we will do everything to be an inclusive element, and we will not set conditions except adherence to the constants, which are the defense of sovereignty, confronting Hezbollah’s hand over the country, rejecting any compromise over the Lebanese money and accountability, and rejecting any talk about God’s forgiveness for the past.” After all the collapse, he stressed that we want to know where the money went and hold everyone responsible for wasting our money accountable, and there is no compromise on this matter.

He stressed that decentralization is the first goal that we will work on. There is a law that we want to put on the table and we demand a vote on it because it is more urgent than ever, as well as the electronic vote that was placed in the drawer to hold the deputies accountable for their performance in the parliament so that no one evades accountability and approve the law that we presented in 2018. The judge cancels the salaries of former MPs for life.

Gemayel concluded: “We are here and we will continue with the young men who entered the council with broad shoulders and bearing the same constants. We promise you that we will fight the battle with all our might because we are coming on difficult days that need passengers and shoulders, our passengers are strong and our shoulders are broad and we will not fear anyone, and we will enter into The Council, with all our strength and struggle, is our support to defend the Lebanese people.”
