The report pointed out that Samsung Display plans to withdraw from the LCD business, and the market has been rumored for a long time, and the reason that prompted Samsung Display to decide to withdraw from the LCD panel business is mainly due to the continued decline in LCD panel prices.
According to statistics from market intelligence company Omdia, between September 2021 and May 2022, the average price of 43-inch LCD panels fell by 46%, while the average price of 55-inch and 65-inch LCD panels also dropped sharply by 34% during the same period. .
In addition, Samsung Display, once the world’s largest LCD panel supplier, has also continued to lose its market share in recent years, and its market share has shrunk from 22% in 2014 to about 2% in 2022.
The report also pointed out that after Samsung Display stopped production of LCD panels, it will focus on the development of nano-quantum dot (Quantum Dot) OLED business.
