Samsung Galaxy S27 Camera and Battery Upgrades Leaked

The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, slated for release in early 2027, is set to introduce a 5,700 mAh silicon-carbon anode battery and overhaul its telephoto camera sensors, according to reports.

Shedding the Legacy Hardware Burden

For years, Samsung’s camera hardware has been largely unchanged. The 3x telephoto zoom, which relies on a small 1/3.94-inch 10-megapixel sensor, appears outdated and will likely be phased out in 2027.

Phasing out this component frees up space for larger batteries and potentially magnets around the Qi2 charging coil. According to earlier leaks, the four-year-old ISOCELL HP2 sensor currently anchoring the main camera array will likely be replaced by a more modern 200-megapixel sensor, such as the ISOCELL HPC, which in the future will also handle 3x–5x zoom functions.

Expanding the Lineup and Rethinking Silicon

The lineup will consist of four models: the standard S27, S27+, the new S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. Reports from sources like WinFuture and Galaxy Club indicate that Samsung plans to expand its high-end range with the Galaxy S27 Pro.

Regional processor segmentation is shifting. Export records indicate that the European Galaxy S27 Pro will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip (possibly an overclocked “for Galaxy” version), while the S27 and S27+ will use Samsung’s Exynos 2700. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also expected to use Snapdragon.

Energy Density and the Silicon-Carbon Leap

Samsung has not changed the 5,000 mAh battery in its Ultra model for six years, but that changes with the Galaxy S27. The series adopts silicon-carbon anode technology. This allows for higher capacity without increasing the thickness of the device.

Leaks indicate that the Galaxy S27 Pro will have a 5,200 mAh battery (5,087 mAh nominal), while the Galaxy S27 Ultra will reach 5,700 mAh (5,534 mAh nominal). Charging speed remains a mystery. Leaks have not revealed whether Samsung will increase the fast charging power, leaving questions about replenishment times for the Ultra’s battery.

Sensor Diversity and Additional Hardware Tweaks

Samsung is moving toward Sony sensors for several modules. The Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50MP Sony IMX855 ultrawide sensor, the same as used in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The telephoto lens will also be 50MP with 5x optical zoom, and a second telephoto lens is rumored, but not confirmed. The Galaxy S27 Pro will share the same 50MP ultrawide and telephoto lenses.

Privacy Display will be expanded to the entire series to allow users to hide screen content. The S Pen will remain exclusive to the Ultra model. The launch is expected to take place between January and February 2027.
