Samsung launches portable SSD with up to 8TB of storage

A Samsung presented today o T5 EVOan SSDSolid-state driveor solid state drive.”>1 portable with a capacity to store up to 8TB of content; according to the company, this is the largest capacity on the portable SSD market.

Still according to the South Korean, the T5 EVO supports speeds USB 3.2 Gen 1allowing data transfer in up to 460Mbpsfar outperforming traditional hard drives — although it lags slightly behind NVME SSDs like the T7 and T9 from Samsung itself.

Designed with travel in mind, the rectangular body includes a clip for attaching to luggage and backpacks, plus drop protection of up to 20 feet and technology Dynamic Thermal Guard to prevent overheating.

Measuring 9.5cm long, 4cm wide and weighing just over 100 grams, the metal body and rubberized surface improve durability, offering protection against drops and ensuring data integrity.

The 8TB version of the SSD costs US$650but there are also 2TB and 4TB options, available from US$190 e US$350, respectively; they are all already available on the Samsung website. The device is compatible with Macs, iPads and iPhones 15 via USB-C.
