The South Korean Samsung stated, in a statement, that the function Instant Plays has been “captivating a larger audience”. The company, which presented at a conference during the Game Developers Conference (GDC), in the US, said that the feature should be offered to more mobile game development studios in the future.
The function Instant Plays is normally found within Gaming Hub, the app that gathers information about games installed on your Samsung device, such as a Galaxy S24 Ultra. She works within the concept of cloud gamingallowing you to play games via streaming without the need for download or installation.
Currently, however, the feature is in the beta testing phase and, even if your Samsung device displays it, the option is not yet available everywhere. Currently, Canada and the USA have the resource, as well as some locations in Europe and Asia. According to Jong Woo, vice president and head of gaming services at the company, this could soon change:
“Not only do we believe that instant access will change the way mobile gamers discover new games and consume content, just like music and movie streaming, it will also change the way publishers think about acquiring new users. We believe this can greatly improve game distribution and pave the way for new opportunities for games to find new audiences.”
It is worth mentioning that just being listed in the role Instant Plays does not make a game run via the cloud. As with other more traditional structures, the development of the game itself must consider the option of integrating with the resource. For this reason, not every gamer app will work within this part of the Gaming Hub.
The problem is really “when” this should all happen: Samsung, in its statement, did not commit to any type of prediction of when the Instant Plays it should leave the beta phase and start to be offered more definitively.
