After several years of hardship and injuries, Samuel Umtiti (29) has regained a taste for football in Lecce where he was on loan from FC Barcelona this season. The French defender sent a very nice farewell message to the club and its supporters on Tuesday on Instagram, before returning to Barça where he is under contract until 2026.

“First of all, I would like to thank Mr. Corvino (Pantaleao Corvino, sporting director, editor’s note) and US Lecce for reaching out to me when other teams doubted me. Thank you for your trust. I I found a team with values and with an exceptional mentality. We had a goal at the start of the season and we achieved it thanks to hard work. For me, staying in Serie A is like winning a title.”
