The National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (Sinapred) reported this Wednesday, July 5, an eruption of gases and ash at the San Cristóbal volcano, located in the department of Chinandega.

The Sinapred assured on its Twitter account that the eruption was “moderate” and that the authorities maintain surveillance of the colossus and the other volcanoes in the country.

According to the official media report, the volcano has emitted large columns of ash, which alerted the residents of the area and the authorities.

The expulsion of gases and ashes, according to the official Radio Ya, rose to about 2 kilometers above the crater.

For its part, the Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (Ineter) would have strengthened the monitoring of volcanic activity “to assess the behavior of the volcano” and would provide more reports on the activity.

Until now, no material damage or affectations had been reported, only the fall of ash in nearby communities.
