The publication highlighted its cosmopolitan environment, its panoramas, cultural activity and that it has two of the three best universities in Latin America.
The American Middle Business Insider drew up a list of the six cities in the world where you could live comfortably with one thousand dollars (875 thousand Chilean pesos at current exchange rates) per month and included no less than Santiago de Chile.
“As the cost of living crisis spreads across the globe, many people may consider moving to cheaper parts of the world,” the article begins, explaining that the economic situation is a global concern.
Between the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, inflation has skyrocketed in most countries, driving up the cost of living.
In that context, Insider compiled a list of “six cities where you can live comfortably for $1,000 a month, using data from the comparison website Numbwhich provides a collaborative summary of the cost of living in the world’s major cities.
It should be noted that Numbeo shows the estimated monthly costs of living for a single person, considering the rental of a one-bedroom apartment. In addition, it shows the figure for one located in the city center and one on the outskirts.
Likewise, in another separate index it measures the quality of life, whose formula takes into account factors such as purchasing power, cost of living, pollution, medical care, safety, climate, travel time in traffic and the housing price-income ratio.
Santiago, one of the cities where you can live well with 1,000 dollars or less
The American media points out that Santiago offers incredible panoramas, a cosmopolitan culture and “a relatively cheap cost of living.”
And he assures that for this reason “it is not surprising that around 35% of the country’s population lives in the capital.”
“It is also full of museums and has two of the three best universities in Latin America,” referring to the University of Chile and the Pontifical Catholic University.
“In Santiago, $1,000 (about 875 thousand pesos) is enough to secure an apartment near the center and cover your living costs”assures Insider.
The other cities in the ranking
In addition to Santiago de Chile, the ranking considered Buenos Aires (Argentina), Sofia (Bulgaria), Bursa (Turkey), Monterrey (Mexico), Cape Town (South Africa).
About neighboring Buenos Aires, BI notes that Argentina’s capital “offers incredible food, lively nightlife and countless cultural delights.”
Along with this, it stands out that it is also one of the cheapest places on the list, because to rent an apartment in the center of the city and cover all expenses, you need US$730 per month, that is, about 640 thousand Chilean pesos.
However, the cheapest on the list is Bursa, where to live well in the city center you need US$650 per month, equivalent to 560 thousand Chilean pesos.
