Santino Ferrucci replaces Callum Ilott in Detroit

The examinations passed following his exit from the track in Indianapolis do not allow Callum Ilott to participate in the next round of the season, starting this Sunday in Detroit. Injured in the hand, the Briton will be replaced by Santino Ferrucci in the Chevrolet n°77 of Juncos Racing.

« Obviously I’m devastated not to race this weekend in Detroitsaid Ilott. After speaking with the doctors and specialists here at Indy, the damage to my hand was slightly worse than when first seen. They suggested that long-term healing was the top priority and that any short-term damage that may be caused by running would be a longer-term problem. So after learning this, I accepted the medical team’s decision not to be cleared and to spend more time healing. Although I would have loved to run, I wanted to preserve myself and focus on my health. I spoke with Ricardo (Juncos) and Brad (Hollinger) and we came to the same conclusion for the benefit of the team. I will be with the team this weekend supporting Santino and providing any advice I can. »

Third race of the season for Ferruci

The 24-year-old American is coming off a tenth-place finish in the Indy 500 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. He also took part in the Texas round earlier in the season with a ninth-place finish in the single-seater Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

“While I’m happy to be back in the car, it’s unfortunate for Callum in these circumstances. Ferrucci said. I hope his hand will heal very quickly and he will be back on track soon. I’m just here to help the team and see if we can get them a really good result and bring some different knowledge from my experience in Detroit. I’m looking forward to having fun and continuing my Indy momentum. I can’t thank the guys at Juncos Hollinger enough for trusting me this weekend and I hope everything goes well. »

Callum Ilott will resume his starting position as soon as possible, indicates his team.
