New Delhi: AIFF president Kalyan Choubey said that the knockout matches of the Santosh Trophy tournament will be organized in Jeddah or Riyadh in Saudi Arabia for a period of 3 years from 2023. He said that the possibility of holding the tournament next February is being examined and for this purpose a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Saudi football authorities.
There are more Indians in Jeddah. However, there is a possibility that the Saudi government will also organize art and cultural programs in the capital, Riyadh. The final decision will be made by January’ – Chaubey said.
The MoU also decided to organize tri-national tournaments twice a year. The tournament will be held in India (Bengaluru, North Eastern states) during the hot season in the Gulf. The tournament will be held in the Gulf during winter. Initially, the U-17 and U-19 boys tournaments will be held.
