A Saudi court has sentenced a citizen to 45 days in prison for publishing a “satirical poem” in which he attacked his grandfather and uncles, claiming that they did not provide her with the necessary assistance for his marriage, according to a newspaper.Observatorylocal.

The lawyer explained that the defendant had published the poem among his tribe members with the aim of offending his family.

On the other hand, the complainant replied: “He exposed us in this way because we gave him 80,000 riyals (more than 21,000 dollars) as his wedding gift, and he considers that this gift is insufficient, unworthy of his position, and that we fell short with him.”
When the judge examined the poem, which consisted of 24 verses, which the plaintiff presented against his nephew, he found in it “a slander and a mockery” against the plaintiff, his father, and his siblings, so he sentenced its writer to one and a half months in prison.
