Saudi approved by the WHO for eradicating trachoma

Jeddah: The World Health Organization (WHO) approves Saudi Arabia for eradicating trachoma affecting the eyelids. Trachoma is an infectious disease that causes blindness. Saudi Health Minister Fahad bin Abdurrahman Al Jalaj received the congratulatory message and certificate.

A WHO spokesman said trachoma is a disease that affects regarding 1.9 million people in different parts of the world. In 2019, Saudi Arabia has prepared a special plan in this regard

The Health Cities program was initiated under the auspices of the WHO with the goal of strengthening the public health sector. Over the past four years, the project has helped Saudi Arabia to become a global healthcare leader.

He added that efforts to reach out to a healthy community will continue and the ministry is still working to eradicate infectious diseases.
