The Arab diplomatic machine is getting going, slowly but surely – although the internal competition between the states is never overridden. As one of the ten elected members, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is currently the only Arab country in the UN Security Council and is unsuccessfully pushing for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Saudi Arabia, which has recently regained its leadership position in the Arab world – at the expense of the UAE – has called two Gaza crisis summits for the weekend.
