Saudi Arabia to Build First Nuclear Power Plant: Unveiling a Path to Clean Energy

Riyadh – Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman has announced plans to build the first nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia for peaceful purposes. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The minister was addressing the 67th General Assembly of the IAEA in Vienna.

Legislation and infrastructure needed for radiation safety will be strengthened. The Minister said that they are also planning to open a Regional Cooperation Center in collaboration with the IAEA to train personnel. The minister also said that the ‘Race of Hope’ initiative launched by the IAEA at a cost of 2.5 lakh dollars to save lives and reduce cancer suffering by using nuclear techniques will be supported by Saudi Arabia.
