Save the Beans: Free Harvest Opportunity for Quality Beans in Péruwelz

2023-09-12 06:12:17

If the heat of the last few days has brought joy to swimming pool enthusiasts and day tourists to the North Sea, it is also heartbreaking for many Walloon farmers who are preparing to lose their entire bean production.

“The temperatures of the last few days have caused the beans to mature much faster than expected to the point where everyone has to harvest and send their produce to the factory at the same time. Which is impossible to manage and process obviously. Even the beans which were to mature only next week are already ready “, explains Laurent Dubuffet, farmer and bean producer.

In order not to simply crush and waste these 12 tonnes of quality beans, Laurent Dubuffet therefore preferred to open his field to anyone who wishes to harvest them free of charge. “Some people prefer to simply crush them, I would prefer to share them with people first, so that they are not just totally lost.” A gesture appreciated by the inhabitants of Péruwelz and the region.
