St. Polten (OTS) Seeing the fruit in the neighbor’s garden spoil on the tree – that motivated Martin and Tobias Gram to do something. You work as a fruit rescuer in the district of Mödling in Lower Austria and collect unused fruit and vegetables in private gardens and process them into jams, juices and many creative products. This is sold. An exemplary initiative in which everything, even the smallest fruit, is used and not wasted. Hundreds of kilos of fruit are saved, which for various reasons cannot be harvested by the private garden owners. Using the example of mirabelle plums – also known as creepers – there are tips for the “Ingeniously cooked – sustainably supplied” series on how they can be processed.

Other topics from “Land und Leute” on August 19:

*Dream of the Alm
Upper Austrian Andreas Pillichshammer from Frankenmarkt would like to rebuild and manage the abandoned Mondseer Hochalm, where there are no more huts or animals. He has already demolished a 300-year-old Styrian wooden house in order to build it on the alpine pastures.

*World field to think about
In St. Michael ob Bleiburg in Carinthia, a so-called Weltacker symbolically shows how our resources and food are doing, what is produced and how much of it is used. For every person on earth, the equivalent of 2000 square meters of arable land is cultivated worldwide, on which everything the earth has to grow.

*King Dachstein
We experience breathtaking mountain panoramas, alpine pastures and creative farms on and around the highest mountain in Styria. The Dachstein shapes people and the landscape and is also known as the King Dachstein.

*Hard work for garlic
In Muthmannsdorf in southern Lower Austria, we see how much effort and manual labor it takes to grow garlic. This explains why domestic garlic is not yet so widespread in the trade and why there is a lot of foreign competition.
