SBB Cargo International has placed an order with Siemens for 20 Vectron locomotives in collaboration with the German rental company Südleasing. The rail freight operator intends to enter into a long-term lease contract for the operation of this rolling stock.
Equipped with Xload options intended to expand their traction capacity, the new locomotives should make it possible to transport longer convoys across the Alps without a back-up engine, the German manufacturer explained in its press release on Monday, without providing financial details on the transaction. The delivery of the first machines is scheduled for 2024.
The planned rental agreement with Südleasing has a variable term.
