SBB orders Stadler Rail for nearly 250 million – rts.ch

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has placed an order with Stadler Rail for seven additional Giruno-type trains, in addition to the 29 already delivered, for some 250 million francs.

The seven new trains are part of the options provided for in the call for tenders won by the rolling stock manufacturer in 2014, said the former federal company in a press release.

The main operator of the Swiss rail network intends to deploy this future fleet on the German high-speed network of Deutsche Bahn (DB), as part of the continued development of its international offer in the great northern neighbour.

The Giruno meets the speed requirements set at 250 km/h to be able to travel on the DB’s high-speed lines.

SBB stresses that demand for train travel to Germany has already returned to its pre-health crisis cruising speed.
