Schaffhausen: ghost driver – bus driver drives in oncoming traffic on the A4

Someone made a mistake in the direction: As reported by the Schaffhausen cantonal police, a 43-year-old bus driver was driving from Bargen towards the center of Schaffhausen when he took the wrong entrance to get onto the motorway. At the junction with the Schweizersbild highway, the man drove his vehicle onto the A4 highway in the opposite direction, despite the obvious signs. According to the vehicle driver, the sun blinded him, which led to the mix-up.

Correctly driving road users who drove in the direction of Bargen would have reported their observation to the police. The wrong-way driver drove in the opposite direction in the overtaking lane up to the Mutzentäli junction, but was then stopped by employees of the Schaffhausen civil engineering office, who were working on the construction site there.

In order to be able to steer the articulated bus in the right direction once more, a section of the A4 had to be closed for around 45 minutes, according to the police. The incident was minor – there were no accidents. The bus driver will have to answer to the responsible public prosecutor.
