Short-term foreign minister
When criticism arose, this passage of the Ministry was legally examined once more. The result: the post of ambassador in Berlin is advertised once more. The other approach was a mistake, according to Schallenberg. Despite the adversities, the Foreign Minister hopes that Linhart will now officially apply for Berlin.
No one doubted his qualifications for the job anyway. Linhart should have taken up his post in Berlin at the beginning of March. He has been Austrian Ambassador in Paris since 2018. In October 2020, when Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) resigned as Chancellor and Foreign Minister Schallenberg succeeded him as Prime Minister, Linhart briefly switched to the Foreign Office. But the term of office lasted only 56 days, and following another shift, Schallenberg became foreign minister once more on December 6th.
