Schmid is always ready for the NHL

goalkeeper Akira Schmid has been back on the New Jersey Devils roster since Tuesday. The reason for the call from the AHL affiliate Utica Comets to the NHL team is the injury of Mackenzie Blackwoodregular number two from the Newark agency.

“You always have to be ready when the call comes. Because I’ve played in the NHL several times, my self-confidence is higher than last year. I know that I can not only survive here, but keep up,” he said on Friday after the training session.

With the Comets he has shared the job between the posts with Nico Daws this season. “I’m doing everything I can to consistently develop at Utica and show my best side so that the team has the chance to win as many games as possible. As a team we’ve had difficulties at times. But we’ve overcome them now get a grip. Of course that’s great. Sometimes you just go through a crisis. Then you have to try to overcome it somehow, “he described the past few weeks in the AHL.

Schmid has made nine appearances for the Devils this season. He had seven starts, five wins, a goals-against average of 2.24 and a catch rate of 91.9 percent. Most recently, he was on guard for New Jersey on January 5 against the St. Louis Blues.
