Science Days in Brazil reaches its 7th edition in 2023

In 2023, three Brazilian cities will host the 7th edition of Science Days in Brazil, considered the largest US itinerant Space & STEM event in the country. Sorocaba (SP), São José dos Campos (SP) and Belo Horizonte (MG) are the stage for the meeting, focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and New Space (new space area) themes, with the support from Full Sail University in Brazil.

In Sorocaba, the event was scheduled for the 13th and 14th of March. In São José dos Campos, students were able to participate on the 16th and 17th and, in Belo Horizonte, Science Days will take place from the 21st to the 22nd of this month. Entries could and still can be made through a link available on the official Science Days profile on Instagram.

The fair brings together lectures, workshops and exhibitions. Students will learn about CubeSats and the technology behind “Small Satellites” through “New Space Sats”. The edition features the launch of a project developed in partnership with KSCIA (Research Center for Space Education) in the United States. According to the organizers, the objective of “ScienceSats” is for students from schools in Brazil to participate in the process of designing, building and operating a satellite similar to the conventional one.

Science Days offers students, educators and their families the opportunity to explore the world of science and, in particular, space exploration and the role it plays in people’s lives and in understanding the universe. According to the event coordinator, Carla Michaelis, the itinerant space fair seeks to popularize science through the availability of free tickets, as published by the 321GO SPACE website.

During the event, students can participate in “Space Talk” with Blue Origin, and the space postcard activity. According to the director of the KSCIA International Space Academy in Brazil, José Carlos Filho, all cards, on a date to be confirmed by Blue Origin, will be on board the New Shepard rocket. “After completing the mission, [os cartões postais espaciais] will be returned to their senders with a Flown in Space stamp,” he said, as published by 321GO SPACE.

“It is a pleasure to be part of this initiative that is Science Days, inspiring young people to learn more about careers in the technology area”, says Carol Olival, Community Outreach Director at Full Sail University in Brazil.

“We live in a time when AI (Artificial Intelligence) and emerging technologies are consolidating more and more strongly. Therefore, it is essential that future professionals can find their way, understanding the relationship between humans and machines”, she says.

For Jefferson Michaellis, KSCIA Senior Advisor – STEM & Space Outreach, celebrating the 7th edition of Science Days in Brazil is something that generates “extreme happiness”. For the professional, this generation “will be responsible for achieving a promising future”.

On average, 70% of young Brazilians are interested in science and technology, more than sports (62%) and religion (67%). The information is part of an unprecedented study carried out by the INCT-CPCT (National Institute of Science and Technology in Public Communication of Science and Technology), shared by Jornal da USP (University of São Paulo).
